There will only be a new iPhone with OLED screen this year 2018, according to Digitimes

The usual analysts of the investment companies that follow the future of Apple have already advanced some details of what they think will be Apple's plans for this year 2018 that has just begun. Although it is still too early to venture far in time, it seems that Apple will replace the current iPhone X for a new model, without leaving the previous one on sale as it has done other years when it has renewed the iPhone. It is also expected that Apple released three new iPhone models this year .

Today, a new rumor originated in the Taiwanese publication Digitimes tells us that of those three new iPhone models expected for 2018, only one will have OLED screen , with a size of about 6.5 inches , as if it were a kind of iPhone X Plus .

In our case, the reason why we thought that Apple might not leave the current iPhone X for sale would have nothing to do with the hypothesis that it has not sold much by the time it reaches September 2018, but simply because it is not possible get so many OLED screens to cover the huge demand that Apple faces every time it launches a new iPhone model. That would explain why a single model with this type of screen, and why the previous model does not continue to sell.

The other two new models of iPhone could have an LCD screen like the one we have been using in the last ten years, with a backlit panel and a size of 5.8 and 6.1 inches respectively. The current iPhone X has a screen of 5.8 inches, so everything Digitimes says is true, Apple would stop selling an OLED screen 5.8 inches and that size would become LCD, leaving the OLED screen only for the 6.5 inch model. Apart from that, all TrueDepth and Face ID sensors would be present in all these LCD models, which means that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus could be the last Apple iPhones that have a Home button. In any case, Digitimes says that Apple has not yet made a decision on this, something that surprises us a lot because it usually takes more than a year to have clear the strategy to follow for the current year, perhaps not in terms of final specifications of the terminals but yes in the number of models and most basic characteristics of the same.

Summing up, what Digitimes tells us today seems hard to believe, because of the screen sizes and the times when everything is supposed to be decided. It is known, for example, that by December of 2016 it was already decided what the iPhone X would look like now in 2018. Despite all the rumors about a Touch ID fingerprint sensor under the screen, Apple was already clear before starting 2017 that the iPhone X would use only facial recognition to identify the user. We are talking about a production chain involving tens of thousands of people, you can not have something as important as the number of iPhones to launch this year or the technology of your screen without deciding at the end of January. Only this point makes it very difficult to believe this rumor of Digitimes. In about eight months, we will probably all leave doubts and see if what they tell us today is fulfilled ... or not.
